On Sunday 22 January, the Ace Hotel of Shoreditch, in collaboration with food magazine The Gourmand, hosted the canine catwalk “Dog Eat Dog: Take II”. The event was organised to present the 2017 Dog Eat Dog Calendar, which profits will go to the Blue Cross.
The Catwalk
The show was held at the top floor of the Ace Hotel, from which you could enjoy a magnificent view of the city, and the main catwalk room was beautifully decorated with a display of prints from the Dog Eat Dog calendar.
Dog Eat Dog II proved remarkably popular. In fact, the Ace Hotel received over 450 RSPVs and organisers had to cap entrances at 250. There was really a great buzz and everyone arrived early to secure the best places!
The dog models competed on four categories: Sports Luxe, Couture, Accessories and Tailoring.
French Bulldogs Matoko and Taxi Cabernet, and Brussels Griffon Rufus contended the Sports Luxe category, Italian Greyhound siblings Monkey and Pippin the Couture contest, Ernie, Barley and instagram-famous Marcel Le Corgi the Accessories one, and the “gentledog” featured in the top picture, Pofi, registered for the Tailoring category. Many other dogs signed up for the competition, but, due to their busy dog model schedules, they could not participate.
The Backstage
The contending dogs were reserved a green room where they could chill out and enjoy a bowl of fresh water before the catwalk began, even though most of them thought it was the perfect place for having some runs and playing, playing, playing instead! Ernie the poodle was perhaps the only one who felt it was a bit too chaotic and preferred to observe the scene from a comfortable human point of view in his owner’s arms.
After the catwalk, and when the public left the main room, there was time to enjoy the sunset from the glass walls. Apparently, the dogs enjoyed the splendid view too!
And the winners were…
The award ceremony was more intimate than the catwalk, opened to the contestants and a few guests. The judges declared Rufus winner of the Sports Luxe contest, with his seriously glamourous “Dover Street Market” outfit. Monkey and Pippin were awared the Couture rosette, while Pofi won the Tailoring category, and beagle Barley was awarded the Accessories first place and crowned Best in Show, thanks to his coat and yellow hat matching his owner’s.
Dog Eat Dog 2017 Calendar
The prints of the beautiful photos from the Dog Eat Dog 2017 Calendar were on display in the main catwalk room. If you missed the event, I would highly recommend you have a look. You can buy the calendar on The Gourmand’s website… icing on the cake is that proceeds go to animal charity Blue Cross!
